Blu-ray has been on a roll the latest couple of weeks, but now things seems to have slowed down a little and the problem seems to be the efficient copy protection. The same protection that has made the movie industry jump for joy has annoyed several hard and software companies. Not the least Microsoft but now also HP that for long has been a Blu-ray supporter. HP says that it might consider switching to HD DVD if Blu-ray doesn’t add certain features to its format.

The two features HP wants are Managed Copy which is a must for making Blu-ray fully compatible with Media Center PCs as it allows consumers store their movies, a limited amount of times to the harddrive with its Media Center for distributing its over the home network. It also wants iHD, an interactive technology, which is supported by Windows Vista.

Now that more and more big actors are making their voices heard we hope that Blu-ray will give in to the demands so that the consumers won’t be completely locked up with the use of the media. It seems that the copy protection the two format uses will be a more crucial part of this than anyone would’ve expected to begin with.
