Blu-ray has been gaining a lot of support lately, especially from several movie studios. HD DVD has more or less lost all of its sure cards and will have to settle with support from studios that also support Blu-ray. A technology that HD DVD has supported and Blu-ray hasn’t is Mandatory copy. A technology that makes it possible for consumers to copy their discs to distribute the movie locally to your Media Center computer. This technology has been requested by both home electronics manufacturers such as HP and Microsoft with Blu-ray. Now it seems that Blu-ray has folded here, which we are of course very glad they did, but HP which has also requested interactive functions in the form of iHD are still not satisfied as Blu’ray hasn’t adopted this feature yet. Mandatory managed copy will be part of Blu-ray format, but while HP’s request (for interactivity) is being considered, at this point in time, the Blu-ray group is still proceeding down the path of Java,” Source: Reuters
