Catalyst 10.2 brings the following news;
- Better game performance, sooner: Game profiles help optimize performance so that gamers get an amazing experience. AMD is focusing its efforts to provide access to game profiles when a new game launches – often on the day of launch – and AMD plans to post a separate executable file on AMD.com that users can install to get access to the latest application profiles for improved performance.
- More powerful panoramic gaming with ATI CrossFireX™ technology: Fans of ATI CrossFireX™ multi-GPU technology can now take advantage of the additional graphics horsepower to help increase game performance or image quality settings when using ATI Eyefinity multi-display technology.
Support for CrossFire Eyefinity, ULPS and DisplayPort audio were available with the hotfix updates from AMD, but the new gaming profiles that will update outside of the drivers, a bit like NVIDIA, is very good news. The perhaps most interesting is AMD’s rewrite of CrossFire by moving the multi-GPU support out of the actual 3D driver.
During a phone brief earlier this month AMD revealed that it would become possible to connect different kinds of graphics circuits. Much like Lucid Hydra or its own Hybrid CrossFire technology. This will become even more important when AMD launches its first processor with integrated GPU.
Catalyst 10.3 will refine the Eyefinity support and it will bring the longed for support for Display Bezel Compensation. This setting will allow you to configure your screens to adjust for the black borders.
With Catalyst 10.3 AMD will add support for Stereoskopisk 3D that together with 120Hz monitors and third-party 3D glasses will go up against 3D Vision from NVIDIA.
Last but not least AMD will start developing monthly Catalyst updates for its mobile platforms. This will begin with Catalyst 10.3 and it is surely needed to grab further market shares among notebooks.
AMD has released the Catalyst 10.2 drivers on the website and next month we all know what to expect.
