AMD seems to have done its homework since it released its first official Windows Vista driver as it just like NVIDIA has released a new version. Even if Catalyst 7.1 wasn’t as heavily criticized as NVIDIA’s ForceWare driver there was still a lot to ask for when it comes to the Vista support. Now that Catalyst 7.2 has appeared it’s both with loads of fixes and an improved OpenGL support, something which was a big achilles heal with the first driver.
“OpenGL performance improves for all ATI Radeon X1000 series products under Windows Vista. Gains of up to 25% in Doom 3, 48% in Quake 4 and 21% in Prey can be seen on a variety of ATI Radeon X1000 cards”
It has also included its new Catalyst Control Panel which is suppose to be both faster and more stable than the previous version. Catalyst 7.2 seems to be a must for all Radeon and Vista owners and the drivers can be downloaded from AMD’s website; Catalyst 7.2 Vista 32-bit and Catalyst 7.2 Vista 64-bit.
