Many MMORPG, or Massive multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game, have grown to become some of the most popular titles among gamers, with the undisputed king of the hill, World of Warcraft, in the lead. The sign of the MMORPG is a very broad gamer community and long lifespans of the individual games. This means that the popular MMORPG games are not as demanding as modern FPS, car games and such. At the same time it’s not just hardcore gamers playing and therefore it becomes extra interesting to see the hardware used.
The graphics card is often the most expensive component, together with the processor, and many MMORPG gamers neither have the interest nor the budget to get the high-end cards. It’s a pretty even struggle between AMD and NVIDIA, until you get to WoW where NVIDIA takes command, something that probably made the marketing department wheel-cart around the office.
