Cheating and doping are things that are present in all sports and unfortunately the overclocking scene is not one of the spared ones. Like all sports that are becoming more and more popular they attract people that are not afraid of cheating to set new records. Debates have been going on at different forum (e.g. XS: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 [ed. note, XS is not the sole source and should not be treated as such]) where they question some of the records which have been published, simply because they are sometimes too good to be true. Cheaters are always caught in the end, unfortunately there are usually some people who are harmed in the process of catching the real cheaters.
Earlier on a few record holders have been caught with constructing their own results, simply cheating. Both Coolaler’s and OnePageBook’s results have been questioned recently, since they’ve used different tweaks for achieving results that are far better than the rest, this despite that they’ve shared their tweaks. We’re not accusing anyone of cheating, we have the fullest respect for what they’ve done and see no reason to doubt them.
Yours truly was once a very active overclocker and have spent almost too many hours in the company of such people and therefore knows that two seemingly identical systems doesn’t necessarily mean identical performance. Experience and fingertip feeling plays a much bigger part than most people think. I should not forget to mention stubbornness, but if one should lack these qualities it’s not impossible that cheating has occurred. We just hope that no one here has actually done it or even thinking of doing it.
[ed. note: XtremeSystems has not accused anyone of cheating nor are we.]
