Google continues to improve the Chrome browser. It has now released a new beta where it not only has tuned performance but also connected it to its own “cloud” of online services. Chrome 4 Beta will be up to 400% faster than the first version of the browser, while it is 30% faster than the current stable version of Chrome 3, according to Mozilla’s DOM Core test. The perhaps most interesting feature is Chrome’s handling of bookmarks.
As more and more people use different computers at home, at work and perhaps when traveling it has been almost impossible to keep track of all bookmarks. When you’re at work and want to show your colleagues that cool video clip you found last night the bookmark is of course only available from home.
With Chrome 4 Beta you can synchronize your bookmarks using your own Google account. When you activate the synchronization on your other computers the bookmarks are fetched automatically and updated on all computers when you make changes with one of them. Google has posted an explanatory video on YouTube that says it all.
A nice feature that also Mozilla is working on with its Weave add-on, but haven’t gotten as far as Google. There is also the Xmark plugin, which is one of the more popular add-ons.
