When Intel launches the Core i5-600 series it will become the first processor family with integrated graphics. The series will be crowned with the flagship Core i5-670 operating at 3.46GHz, which was revealed by roadmaps for the Clarkdale architecture. The top model will not sport the fastest IGP though, if we are to trust the latest info. It all comes down to that Core i5-670 is rated 73W TDP while brother Core i5-661 is branded 87W.
Core i5-661 will operate at 3.33GHz and thus sport some more space up to the 87W TDP. This will be used to bring the integrated graphics core to higher frequencies according to Fudzilla. The remaining three models of the Core i5-600 series sports an IGP operating at 733MHz and are rated 73W TDP.
The graphics circuit of the 661 model will operate at 900MHz, which will make it the fastest graphics performer among Clarkdale processor. The clock frequency can be compared to the 800MHz that Intel’s G45 Express IGP operate at, but hopefully there is more than just the frequencies that separate Clarkdale from the X4500HD circuit.
Intel’s 32nm Westmere architecture is expected to launch in January next year and to begin with we expect four Clarkdale processors sporting integrated graphics. Core i5-670/661/660/650 that beside the dual processor cores also house 4MB L3 cache, TurboBoost and HT support.
