Colorful has sailed up as one of the more interesting graphics card makers and in Asia it has now presented a new model based on AMD Radeon HD 6850 that not only gets a new cooler from Zalman, but also a beefier power supply and 4-way CrossFire support.
When we presented the latest rumors on AMD’s new Radeon HD 6800 family we could reveal that the company had now released the ties and partners were allowed to come up with its own solutions for the entry model Radeon HD 6850.
“AMD Radeon HD 6850 sägs däremot komma att dyka upp i skräddarsydda lösningar från åtminstone de större tillverkarna, vilket borgar för egna kylningslösningar och andra fysiska modifikationer.”, från NordicHardwares rapport i slutet av september
Colorful has taken the chance and modified Radeon HD 6850. The result is a custom circuit board with 8-phase digital power supply (6 for GPU, 1 for memory and 1 for I/O) capable of supplying up to 200 ampere. The card comes with Japanese nichicon LF capacitors and we also find tantalum capacitors from Sanyo spread around the PCB.
The graphics card comes with dual 6-pin PCIe power connectors and Colorful has been kind enough to give the card an extra CrossFire connector, which means you can connect up to four cards in the same system. The big question is if the Zalmans VF3000 cooler allows for it.
Either way Colorful has put the bar up high with its tailored Radeon HD 6850. Let’s just hope other follow. The race is on.
