Conroe or Core 2 Duo, which will be the name of Intel’s next generation stationary processor, still has a few months to go before it will be available in retail stores, but that hasn’t stopped Intel or well connected users to post benchmarks with this exciting architecture. The last couple of weeks we’ve seen how Intel’s mobile processor Core Duo, Yonah, has been crushing one record after another, everything from SuperPi to 3Dmark. Now it seems it’s Conroe’s turn to stand in the spotlight and even if Core Duo is a very potent processor it is practically nothing compared to Core 2 Duo. Some time ago we reported about Tyrou who had set a new 15 second record with SuperPi 1M, which was an almost ridicolous result. Now Fugger has taken a Core 2 Duo processor down to 12 seconds with the same test!

Tyrou used a three stage compressor setup to cool his Core Duo and move up the frequency to 3.84GHz and score 15.953 sec with SuperPi 1M. Fugger used a “meager” Vapochill LS phase change unit to bring his Core 2 Duo processor to mighty impressive 3.91GHz! A trick he used was to disable one of the two cores to gain a few more houndreds MHz.

The result of a Core 2 Duo (Conroe) processor running at 3.91GHz was a SuperPi 1M time at almost unimaginable 12.984 seconds. A world record which is hard to find words to describe. We are clearly looking forward to seeing more of Conroe and Intel’s new Core 2 Duo family where we soon will have one of our own.
