Taiwanese laptop manufacturers have according to DigiTimes announced they will use Intel’s Conroe processors in their laptops instead of Intel’s mobile Core processor Merom. Conroe has a specified TDP at 65W compared to 35W for Merom and even if it is hardly ideal with higher power consumption in laptop many manufacturers feel it is worth it as they expect to save up to $50 per computer with Conroe instead of Merom. Update: Intel has later commented that there is a possibility we will see Conroe-based laptops, but that these would be desktop replacements foremost and thus have little impact on the market as a whole.
