Intel has started to share information on its coming LGA1155 and LGA1156 platforms at its Design Development Tool website and among others we see pictures of interposer boards that will be used for testing and troubleshooting the new Core i5 platforms, since it’s merely just test processors used by product developers. Core i5 will be Intel’s mid-range model based on the Nehalem architecture, where Core i7 has already grabbed the performance segment.

The processors are code-named Lynnfield and Havendale where Intel has limited the memory bandwidth with just a dual channel memory controller, compared to the triple channel controller of Core i7.

Even of the new processors will slip behind Core i7 in performance, Core i5 still has an interesting feature not available with the high-end series, some of the processor models will sport an integrated graphics circuit.

The first Havendale and Lynnfield platforms are rumored to appear in the third quarter of 2009, which means motherboard manufacturers and others still have plenty of time to test their products. Rumors are also going around that Intel has scrapped the 45nm version of the CPU-GPU chip, and will instead go with a 32nm+45nm chip.

At Intel’s website there is also information on the coming Xeon platform, LGA1567 which will house the new 8-core Beckton processors.
