Corsair has announced that it has now shipped over 1 million memory modules in the premium segment during 2006. In this segment we find Corsair XMS, XMS Pro, XMS Xpert and XMS Dominator. According to Corsair this confirms that it is the world’s largest distributor of high performance memory modules and the eight largest memory manufacturer overall. To celebrate this Corsair has designed something that should catch the attention of many enthusiasts; five special memory kits with gold plated heatspreaders. The memory modules beneath are Corsair’s new flagship, Dominator 2GB DDR2-8888, which already without the gold costs over $600.
The memory modules will not be available in stores, but are only for Corsair’s anniversary competition “Why I Love Corsair”. To be able to win you have to write an essay at maximum 200 words, which explains why you love Corsair. We seriously doubt that the gold plating will add anything to the performance, but the value and above all collector’s value is nothing to complain about.
