Corsair Dominator 8500C5DF is a memory kit that is hardly for the regular Johnson. Today’s motherboard platforms support 800MHz DDR2 memories at most and anything beyond that counts as overclocking. This is something most of readers have no problems with and even the memory manufacturers are pushing the limits of the set standards. Corsair is no exception and its PC8500C5DF modules are specified at 1066MHz with 5-5-5-15 memory latencies. This is considerably higher than the JEDEC standard of 800MHz, but at the same time there are plenty of memories with even higher specifications. We’ve taken a closer look at these enthusiast modules which through its belonging fan module is just asking to be pushed to the limit, so we did.

“Thanks to Micron’s memory circuits, there’s a lot of headroom for fiddling with memory settings to find a setting that fits the system’s configuration, like FSB and CPU speed. If you can access high voltages, there’s a lot of potential for overclocking these circuits far beyond their specified speeds.”
