Corsair has announced that it’s lab engineers has broken the DDR3 memory frequency world record. Using Corsair’s Dominator DDR3 memory, a nice Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 and a sturdy X48-based ASUS P5E3 Premium motherboard, they were able to to push a single 1GB module to 1231MHz, or 2462MHz effective DDR frequency. Even if the frequency is impressive by itself, the most astonishing bit of this record are the aggressive timings. The former world record was at 2452MHz with 11-11-11-34 timings, Corsair was able to maintain 9-9-9-24 at the record breaking speed.
“Corsair is obsessed with pushing memory technology to its limits and beyond,” said Martin Mueller, Senior Director of Engineering, Corsair. “This World Record demonstrates the overclocking and high speed memory expertise within Corsair Labs and definitely pushes the memory enthusiast community to achieve even faster, more outrageous speeds.”
The Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 was pushed to an FSB of 615.7MHz (x6=3694MHz), and with a 1:2 divider that got them to the new world record. It doesn’t say if they modified the cooling of the P5E3 Premium motherboard in anyway so we will just have to assume they didn’t. Below is the CPU-Z validation;
