Corsair has now announced that it has launched a new series of DDR2-SDRAM modules called the Dominator Series. Dominator is the name of the new heatsink design it has developed for the memory modules and it’s actually not the first time we see this design. Already during Computex in June it displayed the first prototypes of the Dominator series. But now it is time for the first memory modules that use the technology to be launched. Corsair claims that it has developed an optimal technology for cooling the memory chips in the best possible way and at thus transfer the heat out into the air. The technology is called DHX, Dual-path Heat Xchange. It works so that the heatsinks are attached to both the memory chips and the module’s PCB.

This is to remove all of the heat in the best posstible way and the flagship of the series is also equipped with a specially designed fan that will move the heat away from the heatsink.

The new heatsink is used by the two new memory kits Corsair TWIN2X2048-8888C4DF and Corsair TWIN2X2048-8500C5D. But it is just the first that will also include the special fan. This makes it possible for Corsair to push the memory’s specifications to impressive 1111MHz at 4-4-4-12-2T latencies. The modules are at 1GB a piece and of course sports EPP. 8500C5D has somewhat less impressive specifications, 1066MHz and 5-5-5-15-2T latencies. We’re looking forward to hearing more about Corsair’s new XMS2 Dominator series and also hopes to be able to take a closer look at them ourselves.

Unfortunately it seems that the performance is not the only thing that’s extreme with these modules, but also the price. The flagship TWIN2X2048-8888C4DF will cost $600-$650 while the TWIN2X2048-8500C5D kit will cost $380-$400.
