Creative‘s popular X-Fi sound card series now seems to coming in a new shape which should make make more than a few happy. The multimedia manufacturer have presented a PCI Express model of its Sound Blaster X-Fi sound card which in turn should mean that it is planning a commercial launch with support for the PCIe standard. Even if most ATX motherboard still has one or more PCI slots they are constantly decreasing and at the same time there are many SFF barebones with only PCI Express slots, which makes it impossible to use a card from Creative’s X-Fi series.
There is as far as we know no launch date for the PCIe version of X-Fi but Creative has prototypes and hopefully it is just a matter of time before the card will be available, hopefully also its high-end models of the series.
