Crucial recently announced that it has launched new memory modules part of its Ballistix family, but this is not a new set modules where we can see extremely high frequency or low latencies. The target audience is a bit different, the buyers who wants a new look and design. Crucial has namely redesigned its Crucial Ballistix and Ballistix Tracer modules with a new heatspreader which more people will find appealing, those who like giving their modules a glance of two now and then should really appreciate them.
Crucial is hardly the first company to create a more aesthetic design for memory modules; Corsair has its LED models while OCZ has its chameleon heatspreaders. What we’re wondering though is what on earth justifies these designs. When you open the package it’s of course pleasant to be greeted be a well designed object, but when the modules are finally installed all of this feels pretty redundant.
