Network attached media players are quite common these days, but D-Link’s Boxee Box isn’t just your ordinary media player. First of all, it looks a bit odd, like a cube cut in half diagonally. The tiny “cube” sports hardware capable of playing everything from Internet TV and movies through the Boxee service, or simply locally stored media. The online services also include social networking where you can share playlists with friends and contacts.

Getting back to the hardware, during CES it was revealed that Boxee Box will use NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 platform, which should result in good performance thanks to the dual ARM Cortex A9 CPU cores and powerful video processor.

D-Link has already collected an innovation award during CES and Boxee Box looks like a really interesting player, both literally and figuratively.

But what really caught our eye was the remote D-Link has developed for the system. This is just as much a remote as it a keyboard, and this is something we would gladly see more of with HTPC products. Some number keys and a small touch screen and we have the ultimate HTPC remote.

Boxee Box costs around $200 and is slated for the first half of this year.
