DDR3 motherboards coming in the middle of the year

DDR3 support will be introduced with Intel’s coming Bearlake chipsets and previous roadmaps have pointed to an arrival during the first half of 2007. ChileHardware now reports that SuperTalent is already testing DDR3 modules, with unreleased Samsung circuits, and that motherboards with DDR3 will arrive in the middle of 2007. DDR3 will not be compatible with DDR2 even if they will use the same amount of “pins.” The advantages with DDR3 is first of all a lower power consumption (lower voltage) and as a result higher frequencies. Even if the latency cycles will increase previous reports have pointed to that the total time latency will be reduced thanks to the higher frequencies.

ChileHardware has earlier published pictures of a Bearlake-based motherboard and a number of manufacturers have motherboards ready for testing.
