DDR3 volumes reduce price gap to DDR2

0

Shipping prices of DDR3 are starting to near those of DDR2 and manufacturers are focusing all the more on DDR3 to survive. The price of 1 GB DDR2 chips have passed 1.6 USD, with DDR3 at 1.9 USD. They expect major PC builders to move over one third of its demand to DDR3 in Q4 2009. The limited supply of DDR3 has kept the price difference between DDR2 and DDR3 high, and forced many PC builders to stay with DDR2 longer. The transition to DDR3 are moving faster now that larger volumes of DDR3 are shrinking the price gap to DDR2.
