Dell 2407WFP was the longed sequel to the 2405WFP that for over a year was the most popular 24″ LCD monitor on the market. This thanks to its impressive price and performance. When information about the new nya 07 series arrived the expactations got rather high rather fast. Now it seems Dell has managed to screw up royally, several reports namely states that the image quality is actually noticeably worse with the new model, 2407WFP, and that there are serious problems with the sharpness and banding. The first results in that text flows out onto more pixels than it should, which can be seen here as a shadow above the letters.
Banding comes from the bands/lines that appears in color transitions that indicate that the display has insufficient color depth for showing a pure color transition/gradient. In a thread at WideScreen Gaming Forum they’ve discussed these problems and also published some examples of the banding effect.
According to most’s speculations it’s the DVI circuits, if Dell hasn’t been lying about the panel, but in the end the problem remains and Dell has made a mistake. What or if it will do to anything to fix this remains to be seen.
