Dell has now announced that it has added a new option for one of its top model laptops. Dell XPS M1710 can now be had with a Blu-ray player, which indirectly shows what side Dell is supporting in the raging format war between Blu-ray and HD DVD. That Dell is since earlier a leading actor of the BD Founders Association makes this move far from surprising though. And as one would suspect Dell targets this system towards Media Center users with its XPS M1710 laptop which except from the Blu-ray player comes with Windows XP Media Center Edition and a monitor supporting 1080p.
The hardware found inside Dell’s flagship is impressive with an Intel Core 2 Duo T7600 processor at 2.33GHz and a GeForce Go 7950 GTX. The fact that the base version of XPS M1710 with a Blu-ray player costs 3700 USD is perhaps not as entertaining and the price of only the Blu-ray player is about 350 USD, which is also a bit harsh. The new optical formats have started to spread, but it’s still pretty expensive to jump on to this new ‘trend’.
