Dell was dethroned on the global PC market by HP back in 2007. Dell had for long been the world’s largest PC builder, but have since then had to settle for being runner-up. Well it seems like things are improving at Dell as it has managed to increase the lead in the USA, analysts at IDC reports. A big part of this is the cooperation with Best Buy and Wal-Mart.
The report states that Dell shipped 5.5 million units in the USA, a 29.6 percent market share. HP shipped 4.5 million units, a 24.3 percent market share, and second place. Third place Acer increased the most by shipping 1.5 million units, up by 294.2 percent and a 8.1 percent market share. Apple also saw significant growth, up by 30.9 percent to 1.06 million, a 5.7 percent market share and fourth overall followed by Toshiba.
Dell is closing in on HP on the global market thanks to this, especially as Dell is trying to find new distribution channels.
