Dell is expected to go with the flow and launch a 10.1″ version of the Inspiron Mini netbook. Just like Acer, Dell has been offering an 8.9″ model for long, which has been selling well but it is a bit too small to be really practical. The 10″ models are the ones attracting the most interest and Acer is already well on its way, something Dell also seems to be and it has added an interesting piece of news to its coming netbook.
According to the product presentation that has leaked on to the Internet Dell will offer the Mini 10 in two different flavors. Both using a widescreen 16:9 display, men beyond the classic resolution 1024×576 it will also offer a 720p alternative. The latter is supposed to be more of a high definition 10″ panel at 1366×768 pixels. This was implied already back at CES in January.
Some claims that this is too much for such a small display, something we can’t quite understand. The low resolution of today’s netbooks is one of the greatest drawbacks, something Dell’s new image panel will change.
The remaining specifications are quite run of the mill with an Atom processor under the hood, but it can be had in a variety of colors. If it does sport HD playback it most likely also sports the newer Atom chipset and not the old 9 series crap.
We hope to see more manufacturers present 10″ netbooks with high definition displays and Dell may very well be able to grab some extra market shares while the competition wait too long. Of course, the new display will cost more, but how much is not known at this time.
