Dell has now to launch new products based on Intel’s platform after a series of AMD launches. It has simply used Intel’s new quad-core server processor Xeon 5300 (Clovertown) and put it into its current servers and from now on Dell PowerEdge 1900, 1950, 2950 and 2900 will be shipped with Intel’s quad-core processors. Also the blade servers SC1430 and 1955 PowerEdge are now available with Xeon 5300. But it’s not just the server assortment which has been upgraded to Intel’s quad-core architecture, Dell has also updated the component specifications for its workstations Dell Precision 690, 490 and 390 with support for quad-core processors. The first two with Xeon 5300 and the latter with Intel’s desktop model, Core 2 Extreme QX6700.
