Almost all 22″ monitors on the market use 16:10 widescreen panels. At the same time, even fewer offer resolutions higher than 1680×1050 pixels. Although, it seems Dell is about to jump on the new 1080p trend with monitors using the 16:9 format and 1920×1080 pixel resolution. We saw how BenQ launched the first 22″ 1080p panel a while back and now it seems like Dell is about to follow. Prototypes of Dell S2209W, and drivers at Dell’s website, reveals Dell’s plans for a 22″ monitor with a 1080p panel.
It really seems like we’re closing on the turning point for monitors where more and more 16:10 panels will be phased out and replaced by 16:9 equivalents, and with the oncoming Blu-ray format and computers evergrowing multimedia usage it seems even more plausible. There is still now information on when and at what price we will see Dell S2209W, but expect it to be priced competitively.
