Dell has become more and more attentive to any lacks in its assortment and after many years of requests for computers with preinstalled Linux operating systems, the world’s second largest PC builder has decided to give in. At Direct2Dell, the Dell consumers contact site, they’ve officially announced that the first Dell systems with Linux has been launched. Dell will offer its American customers three different Dell systems with Ubuntu 7.04 installed. Dell XPS 410n and Dimension E520n for the desktop market and the laptop Inspiron E1505n.
“Dell is doing this because of your clear feedback in IdeaStorm. User dhart submitted this idea on February 16—the first day we launched IdeaStorm and it quickly became the #1 idea. Since then, about 30,000 community members weighed in to support it, and over 100,000 of you completed the Linux survey to tell us more.”
Dell points out that this is just the first sign of how the company has changed during the last years and with the current development on the PC market, there is no doubt that Dell has to think outside the box to reclaim the top spot as the world’s leading computer builder. How and when Linux-based Dells will arrive in the rest of the world remains to be seen.
