Dell still the biggest PC manufacturer, but HP is closing in fast

Dell has been the world’s biggest PC manufacturer for a long time now and 2006 is no exception. But last year archrival HP almost managed to move past Dell. Through a very strong fourth quarter HP climbed to a market share of 16%, from 14.65% in 2005. Dell improved its shippings by 4%, but lost market shares; down from 17% to 16.3 percent, just marginally bigger than HP. What this will mean for this year’s sales is uncertain, but we’re pretty sure Dell will have hard time keeping its position as the leading PC manufacturer.

iSuppli points to HP’s great rise as the most memorable part of last year. 2007 may perhaps be the year Dell lose its number one spot, or could the cooperation with AMD perhaps open up for a broader market.
