Dell, who used to be so close to Microsoft, has updated its website with some quite interesting bits and pieces. Not only will it disregard the XP deadline on June 30, and continue offering systems with Windows XP Professional up until July 18, but after that you will get the option of having Dell install XP Professional on your new computer, as a bonus when you buy a computer with Windows Vista. Dell has launched a new page dedicated to explaining this new policy.

After July 18, there will be two new options when choosing your operating system for your new computer;

  • Genuine Windows Vista Business BONUS
  • Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate BONUS

When selecting either of these options, Dell will install Windows XP Professional on your PC from factory, but you still get the Vista install CD and an XP Professional image CD. Other companies just hand you the XP professional image CD, if you want to take advantage of the downgrade license.

These options will be free of charge with some products (Latitude, OptiPlex, and Precision), while with other systems you will have to pay a small fee (Vostro, XPS). Dell will run this campaign for as long as Microsoft will offer the downgrade license.
