Most LCD monitors are optimized for games or simple office use where the cheap TN (Twisted Nematic) are good enough. They can achieve pretty decent specifications at low costs, but to professional users swinging around a lot of graphics and images these are far from good enough. IPS (In Plane Switching) panels are much better here and of the latest monitors comes from Dell, UltraSharp U2410.
The monitor sports a 24″ panel with 16:10 image ratio and 1920×1200 pixel resolution. The response time is rated at relatively low 6ms and dynamic contrast at 80,000:1.
The color reproduction is the most impressive bit though, much thanks to the internal 12-bit color handling, adding up to 1.07 billion possible colors, which is a bit better than TN panel monitors that settles for 6-bi colors and 16.7 million colors.
Dell UltraSharp U2410 costs $599 and should be an interesting alternative for the color-fastidious users.
