Many jumped for joy, or at least some satisfaction, when The Inquirer posted news about a new version of DirectX. DirectX 9.0L would be Microsoft’s answer to DirectX 10 for Windows XP and the light anxiety many very feeling over that Crysis, and more, games would require both new hardware and a new operating system setttled. Unfortunately it seems that this has turned to the worse now as new information says that DirectX 9.0L does exist, but it’s not for Windows XP and that it will not let users play DirectX 10 games with Windows XP. DX 9.0L is namely an optimized version of DirectX 9.0 and will be used by Windows Vista for optimal backwards compatibility.
“Our sources also confirmed that L in DirectX 9.0 L stands for Longhorn. So we are back at the beginning – you need to buy a new graphic card and a new OS to have the hardware DirectX 10 acceleration on an API that supports it.”
False hope is always a real kick in the teeth and we recommend you do the same as we have and just try to forget this whole matter and keep saving.
