That several organizations are doing their best to stop piracy of movies, music and software is no secret, but the trick that Federation Against Copyright Theft (Fact) now has put its faith in is, the least to say, new and unique. It has namely trained two dogs to search for pirated DVD discs. Two black labradors have become the world’s first DVD search dogs and according to Fact the first tests searches have been successful. Fact has teamed up with FedEx and HM Revenue & Customs to try and stop the flow of pirated discs into Great Britain. The project is also supported by the Motion Picture Assiciation.
“A Fact spokesman said the dogs had been taught to identify DVDs that might be located in boxes, envelopes or other packaging, as well as discs concealed amongst other goods which would them be sold illegally in the UK.”
Exactly how the dogs have been trained isn’t revealed, but we’re doubtful that they could smell the difference between a real and a pirated disc, most likely we’re talking about revealing big shipments containing DVD discs.
