The video game industry is still one of the most important for development of new electronics. 3D games are often the most demanding applications that a computer or for that matter a video game console will have to endure as game developers are constantly trying to surpass each other with the biggest and greatest graphics. Lately physics have also started to play a role and both game developers and component manufacturer have adapted to the trend. DTS how hopes to bring the sound back on the center stage, or at least surrounding it.

The video game consoles of today lacks any kind of 7.1 channel audio support and as consumers are starting to leer at this audio format for their blu-ray home cinema systems DTS hopes to bring this format to the video game market.

“At this year’s Game Developers Conference, DTS, Inc (Nasdaq: DTSI) will educate developers on their cutting edge DTS Neural Surround Sound technology that enables games to present real-time, discrete 7.1 soundtracks on the Wii, Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and via PC.”

DTS will use its DTS Neural Surround technology for realtime mixing of 5.1 signals to 7.1 channels with no loss of data. Xbox 360 will be the first platform with a game supporting DTS Neural Surround when Prototyp is released on June 26.

DTS also points out that games with the technology is under development for all platforms. Hopefully this means that the extra surround speakers won’t become tired and useless background items but instead a part of your video gaming evening..
