Intel’s Pentium D series was the first to reach the desktop market of the dual core processors. AMD was close second with its Athlon 64 X2, which is often claimed to be a bit better than Intel Pentium D, but at the same time the X2-prices are considerably higher than the ones for the Pentium D, which is clearly a pro for the Intel-series. To be able to use Pentium D you require a mainboard based on any of Intel’s newer chipsets and at TechReport they’ve taken a closer look at seven different platforms, among others a SFF-barebone from Shuttle.
