Jacques Chirac and France are more or less known for doing things there own way and create their own equivalents. The latest is a European counterpart to the big (evil?) American search engines Google and Yahoo! The project has been named Quaero, latin for the word search, and will apparently be more flexible than than the other. Where they are only be able to index pages and images by their names and text Quaero will be able to index both text, sound and images depending on their actual content. Interesting if it works, but at the same time we are wondering whether the motivation could be a bit more ethical and if there is a hidden agenda as there are commercial interests from among others Sony BMG.
