Mozilla has now launched the final version of its browser Firefox 2.0 and after a number of betas and release candidates it’s time for the real deal. Those who’ve tested the most recent RCs of Firefox 2.0 the new features are hardly astonishing, but those who are still using Firefox 1.5 there are more than a few reasons to upgrade. Mozilla has a rich list of features which tells of all news and tweaks of the new version, but the most interesting include a polished design, built-in phishing protection, improved search functions and a better system for tabbed browsing.
It has also spent a lot of time improving the handling of addons/extensions, which is an important part of Firefox’ popularity. At certain occasions Mozilla has also integrated addon-functionality directly into the browser. Firefox 2.0 has an integrated backup function, which makes it possible to restore the browser with the right tabs and inputs at a system crash. A function you had to use a plugin for with Firefox 1.5.
More detailed information about Firefox 2.0 can be found at Mozilla’s website and at Read/WriteWeb they’ve published an interview with Chris Beard from Mozilla where we find out more about the new browser.
