Firefox has been growing steadily over the past years and despite tougher competition it has kept gaining market shares. Especially from Microsoft that after many years of total dominance have been losing shares to multiple competing browsers. Mozilla has now reached a mighty milestone with its Firefox browser as analysts at StatCounter has announced that Firefox 3 is now the most frequently used browser in Europe. During week 12 Firefox managed to surpass Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 7 as the most used browser for the first time.
Microsoft still controls the total browser market as there are still many who are using the aged and not so reliable Internet Explorer 6.0. In Europe Microsoft has lost significant ground and even if it still has 48 percent of the total browser market compared to Firefox’ 38 percent there are a number of countries where Firefox is reigning supreme.
