Firefox will be the base of a new file sharing service based on BitTorrent. Its the risk capitalist company that supported Skype that has found a new baby to care for, AllPeers, a fresh company based in Oxford, England. AllPeers is working on a file sharing service that will let users share its private files with friends and loved ones through a “buddy list” and instead for creating a whole new software for this it has chosen to create a plugin for the very popular browser Firefox. Together with the technology’s design with a “drag-and-drop” interface this will make AllPeers’ creation much easier to use than most other equivalent services.
The way AllPeers works is simple. You build a buddy list, and when you want to share a photo, music, or text document, you simply drag it to the people on your buddy list. (AllPeers uses its own buddy list today, but it plans to add support for AOL’s AIM and Skype buddy lists in the future.) Those buddies in turn get a notification that a file is coming, and it’s downloaded to their computer.”
The first beta version of Allpeers will arrive at the end of the month and it hopes to be able to deliver an official version during the spring or at least at the beginning of summer. We know since earlier that Opera has support for BitTorrent and Allpeers seems to be an interesting alternative for Firefox.
