Small preview image

A while ago we decided to revive our old Folding@Home team and so far we are more than pleased with the support we have gotten. A while ago we moved up in the top 3000 and right now we’re ranked 2391 with 488,281 points. We had estimated to break 500,000 sometime tomorrow, but right now it looks like we will reach there today already. We want to thank everyone who contributes, not so much for own sake, but that you contribute to the project to speed up the process of finding solutions to all the problems that misfolded proteins can cause.

In our first announcement there is a thorough explanation on how you fold and help make the world a better place. One of our best folders, our own Robert “crotale” Kihlberg, has published a guide for how to install the SMP client for better performance and more cores for folding. You can find the guide below (in Swedish here):

1. Install .NET if you don’t already have
2. Run SMP exe and install. During the installation choose “All Users”.
3. Choose a password for the current Windows user
4. Run “install.bat” from the folder you installed in
Answer the questions that appear, most of the time you just have to hit Enter to get the answer between the parenthesis
5. Run “Folding@home-Win32-x86.exe” from the same folder.
Here you will have to answer a bunch of questions. Enter your “User name” and team 122806. The just hit Enter until it asks for “Acceptable size…” Type “big” for the best scoring proteins.
Next is “Advanced Options”, type “yes”.
Hit Enter to “Set -advmethods…”, type “yes” again.
Continue to hit Enter till Machine ID. Here you can choose to have different IDs for different computers.
Hit Enter to “Additional client parameters”, type -smp

You can download Stanford’s Folding@Home client from the official website and if you want to help us contribute in the processor of finding new treatments for the various diseases that misfolded proteins can cause you enter team number 122806.
