Swedish Banks Not Really Hacked?
(Posted by: Electronic Punk at 6:34PM GMT)
In an update to yesterday's story a Swedish friend of mine, Apachez, contacted me and let me know that this story had several holes...
If you missed the story you can click here, but basically an expert claims to have hacked into three Swedish banks using an ISS exploit within minutes.
According to information found in a swedish computer magazine forum posted by one of its users only one of the major banks in Sweden are infact using IIS, the others are using Netscape among other software. This can easily be verified by using a simple HEAD request to each domain in order to see what software they are using.
This either means that the exploit is present on other systems or (as a rumour says) that the expert did not infact break into anything and the company that he works for, are seeking investors in order to not go bankrupt (in other terms that this "discovery" would lead to that investors would spend money on the company).
