Hi,
This has happened to me also.
I would begin with downloading and trying the Windows Update Repair Tool.

If that doesn't help I would then proceed to look up the update that is failing's kb-number (kb1234567*) and download it separately from Microsoft Update Catalog:

Install it manually. If it fails you will get a more specified error message which you can google or post here for further help.
But normally it will just install fine and then you can run Windows Update again normally and it should go to the next update etc.
I've had to do this on up to 3 out of 5 updates at one time before everything went back to normal.
