Fractal Design has been a star shining on an otherwise bleak PC market. The Swedish manufacturer quickly built a good reputation with solid products, not the least the very popular miditower Fractal Design Define R2. It has now presented new cases and revealed some plans for the future.
Fractal Design will launch an updated Define R2 in 2010. Fractal Design Define R3 builds on the same base design as the precursor, but will be available in black or white themes, while there are minor improvements and optimizations throughout the case per customer request, like slightly more powerful fans and new silicon supports.
Fractal Design Array R2 will be a new and updated model of the recently launched mini-ITX case. The new model, much like the former, is designed for NAS and home servers, sports better noise isolation and is now available without power supply.
Fulltower, micro-ATX and new series of cases
Fractal Design will also broaden its assortment of cases with new sizes. Define XL is closest at hand, a fulltower case that houses everything from 180mm fans to ten or so harddrives.
Fractal Design Define XL vs. Define R3
In the future there will probably be micro-ATX cases in the Define series, while the coming Fractal Design Arc series will focus on more airflow and extreme users, although still in a stylish package. This series is expected to debut in October/November.
Goin for an “under-developed” HTPC market
Last but not least the company revealed in an inerview with Bit-tech that HTPCs are close at hand. Where it is not only interested in cases but also remotes where it is planning a high-end model that we hope to see more of soon. Perhaps some competition for Logitech Harmony?
Fractal Design has had a good start and the plans for the future shows promise, something we will be covering here at NordicHardware.
