Full speed ahead with Corsair F40 SSD

Corsair has announced new a model of the Force SSD family, Corsair F40. The new entry model has 40GB capacity, but still offers good performance thanks to SandForce DuraWrite architecture.

Corsair says that thanks to the SandForce SSD processor the lower storage capacity won’t affect performance noticeably. This is otherwise a problem with SSDs that rely on the number of memoy channels in the unit, where less circuit lowers the number of channels and thus degrade the performance of the drive.

Unlike most other current generation solid-state drives, the unique architecture of the SF-1200 SSD Processor allows lower capacity drives to perform with nearly the same performance as larger capacity SSDs. All three Force Series models support the TRIM† command, so write performance is maintained over time.

Corsair has actually launched three new Force models where storage capacities are 40GB, 80GB and 160GB. These will complete the current assortment of 60GB, 120GB and 240GB drives. Below are numbers from Corsair’s own benchmarks.

Corsar’s new minor will cost around 130€ and coule become an interesting option for a boot volume. Corsair F80 and F160 will cost around 230€ and 450€ respectively.
