Graphics card maker Galaxy intends to send out something special for Christmas. While AMD and its partners are doing what they can to satisfy a hungry graphics card market with its Radeon HD 5000 series and not the least the beast Radeon HD 5970, Galaxy is planning to work with NVIDIA. It has revealed a new card design using dual graphics circuits and 512 bit memory interface.
Early rumors suggested a Fermi card, but most likely it is something more like the ASUS Mars. A card that is build from two GeForce GTX 285 GPU, which would explain the memory interface and the dual chips. With an even number of memory chips (16) it’s not just another GeForce GTX 295 card since these have odd numbers of chips. The memories looks like GDDR3 too, which further emphasize the idea of a dual GTX285 card. We’re at least sure it’s not a “PhysX-graphics card” like the one EVGA recently presented.
Except from the drawing of the card Galaxy has released two pictures of the cooler that has been specially designed for this card. Galaxy claims the cooler can handle up to 480W of heat, which sounds pretty crazy. With two 8-pin power connectors there is at least potential to draw more than 300W.
The card is called a master piece and will launch before the Christmas shopping, but it did not specify a date.
It’s a nice contrast to the whole lot of fast AMD cards available, even if we’re counting on limited availability.
