GeForce 8800GT received a lot of praise for its performance, but was also criticized for the poor cooler. The card ran quite hot, +90°C under load, but was also quite loud. It seems NVIDIA is about to correct this by equipping the standard GeForce 8800 GT cards with a new cooler. It has a larger fan running at less RPM. Over at Expreview they’ve tested the new cooler and even though the temperatures are still rather high, the noise is a thing of the past. It seems that If you plan to overclock the card more than a little you will still need a new cooler.
Update:
The reference cooler will remain the same. It’s just a third-party cooler.
