GeForce GTX 295 is already available, using NVIDIA’s “sandwich” design with two separate circuit boards, one for each graphics circuit. The design works, but has some serious drawbacks compared to having both graphics circuits on the same PCB, like the design used by AMD. NVIDIA has decided to launch a new version of GTX 295 using a single-PCB design and now the first tests have appeared.
Ironically it’s not benchmarks that is the most interesting about the new GeForce GTX 295 card, NVIDIA namely uses the exact same specifications with the new card as the old card, which means there are no difference in performance between the two.
Luckily Zol.com has posted a bunch of pictures of the card where they have literally picked into pieces to see who NVIDIA solved the design problems that a single PCB layout may bring.
The few differences the consumers will notice are somewhat lower temperatures with a more efficient cooler, and hopefully the prices of the new GeForce GTX 295 will be lower thanks to the more cost efficient design.
