GeForce GTX 460 hits 900 MHz GPU in first tests

Back in May we reported that NVIDIA GF104 would be one overclocking friendly GPU. This has been confirmed in early tests of GeForce GTX 460, where the GPU clock frequency was raised to 900 MHz with a minor increase in voltage.

GeForce GTX 460 got some room to move and German hardware site Heise.de picked up on the results where it not only hints of the performance, around 6,000 points in 3DMark Vantage Extreme, but also the overclocking potential of the new and more efficient graphics circuit.

The benchmarks, that doesn’t have any specific details to show, hints that GTX 460, as expected, performs on par with big brother GTX 465, although perhaps slightly slower, but the benchmarks are done with the 768MB version, which is the slower of the two known models.

The same card was then overclocked where it easily reached 830 MHz on the GPU, without modifications. This is a significant increase from the stock 675 MHz. With a “minor” increase in voltage they succeeded in taking the GPU to 900 MHz, which was the number we discussed earlier on. With this clock frequency they got a 3DMark Vantage Extreme result of around 8 000 point, a lot more than what the more expensive sibling GeForce GTX 470 can do (7 650 points).

It remains to be seen how the top model of GeForce GTX 460 performance and at the same time what NVIDIA will make of  GTX 465 that looks to end up in no man’s land with these new cards.

GeForce GTX 460 will launch officially on July 12th, costing somewhere north of $200.
