Quaero was suppose to become Europe’s answer to Google and when France and Germany teamed up to develop a search engine specifically for the European market that would offer a broader indexing possibilities than Google. When we first reported about the plans for Quaero we questioned even if the project would survive, alas it seems it took about a year before Germany pulled out. After that Germany and France decided to pump a couple of billion Euro into the project EU’s largest member country has decided to pull out. France still has faith in the project and may apply for money from the EU instead. It remains to be seen whether the Quaero project will really survive this though.
