Gigabyte EP45 Extreme preview

Gigabyte EP45 Extreme is one of the more extreme motherboards based on the upcoming Intel P45 chipset. In addition, Foxconn launched the BlackOps motherboard just recently, and it sported the Intel X48 chipset and is one of the most extreme motherboards we’ve seen so far. Gigabyte has no intention of being worse and has allowed TweakTown to take some pictures and publish some information about Gigabyte EP45 Extreme. As mentioned above, the board is based on Intel’s P45 chipset and it seems like this one will be a limited edition. The pictures reveal a quite extreme passive chipset cooling, which you can complete with both a pot for LN2 or dry ice for the processor, or alternative water cooling for the chipset.

“there’s an additional part of the heat pipe which has a heatsink that sticks out in the I/O area and this has been done to enhance the cooling of the PWM area. The board has a 12-phase PWM and the memory and northbridge has a two phase PWM design.”

Gigabyte has more than one kind of cooling in mind, just like Foxconn, and offer loads of functions and features. If we turn to the overclocking potential, Gigabyte is working on a new version of EasyTune. EasyTune 6 will work with all of Gigabyte’s P35, X38, X48 and P45 motherboards, but it seems that P45 Extreme will offers some goodies few other boards will be able to match.

It seems that the motherboard manufacturers have shifted gears and put even more effort into designing new enthusiast motherboards. There will be more extreme motherboards when Intel decides to unleash its new 4 series.

In short, we will have something really juicy for you in relation to this. In fact, it will be a world’s first and unique article.
